Dorje, a young Tibetan woman with a beautiful baby girl named Lolo, faces a difficult decision. If she stays with her abusive husband who drinks and does not earn enough to provide a good living for his family, she puts her life in danger. If she divorces him and moves back home, she disgraces her family name and brings shame upon her father.
She has few options as a minority living in a shame based culture. For her own safety and that of little Lolo, she makes the difficult decision to leave her husband without a divorce and find her own place to live.
She hears there is a foreigner in a nearby village teaching women to sew using local textiles. She joins the class hoping this new skill will provide for her daughter. Shortly after, Dorje’s grandmother falls seriously ill, and she is obligated to care for her. In order to continue with the sewing class, she asks the teacher to care for Lolo on the weekends while Dorje travels to her grandmother’s village.
After weeks of this arrangement, her grandmother passes peacefully, so Dorje returns to live with Lolo. Because of her keen sewing skills, she receives the opportunity for freedom she longed for. Dorje now works for the sewing project, living there full time in exchange for her sewing.
Dorje sewed most of these products. Thank you for your purchase. It allows her to continue earning a living for herself and Lolo.
